Pre-filters

The pre-filters used during the filtering process are designed to be cleaned with a vacuum from the outside of the air purifier.

Austin recommends you vacuum it out every 3 months. Since they are cheap you might want to consider replacing them more frequently than the regular filter.

Drawbacks

We don't like the fact that there is no indicator light on the air purifier. You will have to remember when you need to change the filter.

This means the machine can't tell you when the filter needs to be replaced. So if it needs to be replaced sooner than 5 years you will have to figure out if the filter is still working.

If you smell odors in the air leaving the machine, it's a good sign that you need to buy an Austin air replacement filter.

Warning

Washing a HEPA filter will cause it not to work. Please don't wash your filters. When they go bad, you have to buy a new filter.
